Basically, the notes on the chord remain the same, but the order or sequence of the note gets changed. For example, a variation of a traditional C Major chord, which is made up of the C, E and G notes, can be changed to E, G, C, or G, C, E. This may be a little complicated at first but over time, you will become more familiar with these variations.
